The Touch of the Masters Hand
| |
| Twas battered and scarred and the auctioneer thought it scarcely worth his while to waste much time on the old violin, but held it up with a smile. "What am I bid, good folk," he cried, "Who'll start bidding for me? A dollar, a dollar- now two, only two- Two dollars, and who'll make it three? Three dollars once, three dollars twice, Going for three"- but no! From the room far back a gray- haired man came forward and picked up the bow; Then wiping the dust from the old violin, and tightening up the strings, he played a melody, pure and sweet, as sweet as an angel sings. The music ceased, and the aucioneer with a voice that was quiet and low, said; "What am I bid for the old violin?" And he held it up with the bow. "A thousand dollars- and who'll make it two? Two thousand- and who'll make it three? Three thousand once- three thousand twice- and going- and gone," said he. The people cheered, but some of them cried, "We do not quite understand- what changed its worth?" The man replied, "The touch of the Master's Hand." And many a man with life out of tune and battered and torn with sin is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd much like the old violin. A "mess of pottage," a glass of wine, a game and he travels on, he's going once, and going twice, he's going- and almost gone! But the Master comes, and the foolish crowd never can quite understand the worth of a soul, and the change that's wrought by the touch of the Master's Hand Author Unknown

Chosen

| Whenever I'm disappointed with my lot in life, I stop and think about little Jamie Scott. Jamie was trying out for a part in his school play. His mother told me that he'd set his heart on being in it, though she feared he would not be chosen. On the day the parts were awarded, I went with her to collect him after school. Jamie rushed up to her, eyes shining with pride and excitement. "Guess what, Mum," he shouted, and then said those words that remain a lesson to me: "I've be chosen to clap and cheer." Marie Curling

The Commitment
| |
| For those of you that have been blessed with love, both in its giving and receiving, God bless you. Should the day come that God blesses me with the love of my life, may the following be our commitment to one another...For I will adore her all the days of my life...My word is my word. We commit to be friends and partners and remain so. Friendship can be a peaceful island, seperate and apart in a world of turmoil. We reflect upon the serenity of future years shared with a true friend We commit to be sharing companions. Sharing and companionship give lifelong protection against the pain of loneliness. We commit to intimacy. The commitment to grow together in intimacy leads to an abiding love fulfilling man's deepest need. We commit to be lovers. Lovers comfort each other from the chills of the world providing a source of peace, harmony, and warmth of soul and spirit. Lovers touch each other frequently with affection. The touching of their bodies symbolizes the touching of their hearts. We commit to be open with each other. We will not bind ourselves in the self-concealment that causes suspicion and doubt. We will reveal ourselves to each other, even as the budding rose opens to reveal its fragrance and beauty. We commit to listen to each other... and not hear just words, but hear also the non- language of tone, mood, and physical expression. We will learn the art of listening to understand, rather than listening to evaluate. We commit to be truthful...so that we may always trust. When things do not go smoothly, we will try to be patient, gentle, understanding, flexible, and loving with each other. We commit to mutual support. We will give each other approval, remembering criticism divides while compliments encourage growth. We will not hasten to point out the other's mistakes, but determine to be responsible for our own. We commit to mutual respect. We will respect each other's rights, for each of us is a special person entitled to our own choices and mistakes. We will accept the other, as we would have ourselves accepted. We will adjust to the needs of the other while remaining true to ourselves. We are two individuals who enrich our existence by having a single life, and a shared life. We commit to fidelity. We will cherish our union by being faithful, for nothing can be stronger or more important than our love. We will let no one come between us, neither child, family, friend, nor material goods. Finally, we commit to love. We choose to love. We will love one another. Love is our river of life. Our eternal source for recreating ourselves. Above all else, we will love one another. For when we love, God dwells in us.
